Therapy For Creatives & Entrepreneurs

Maybe you have an outside the box perspective. This can be really inspiring but can also feel a bit alienating when people don’t understand you. You might feel yourself struggling to connect with people who adhere to the status quo and follow a more traditional lifestyle.

Working with creatives and entrepreneurs in therapy is so exciting because these are folks who see things differently.

So why combine these two onto one specialty page?

The similarity here is the outside the box perspective. The seekers who see things differently and don’t accept that things should be the way they are just because they’ve always been that way. They see opportunities, possibilities, and connections that others don’t.

Being a creative or business owner can be thrilling but also terrifying. It can be so vulnerable to put yourself out there, not to mention dealing with the financial risks involved. Therapy specifically tailored to working with you in these areas can help you to feel more fulfilled and grounded in your creative and/or business pursuits.

There’s also a lot of overlap. Many creative pursuits have some element of entrepreneurship involved. Performers for example are running their own business of getting booked, finding opportunities to practice their craft, and manage their careers (even if they hire someone to do this for them). Artists are showing their work, networking, and maybe selling their pieces.

And most entrepreneurs or small business owners are engaged in the creative process of creating their business and their brand. They don’t have a boss telling them what to do or how to do it, so they’ve got to get resourceful and create it themselves.

Some examples of different types, including but not limited to…

Creatives:

  • Performers, actors, musicians, singers, dancers

  • Artists, visual artists, graphic designers, sculptors, painters

  • Hair stylists, estheticians

  • Interior designers, decorators, fashion designers, vintage collectors/sellers

  • Writers, poets, academics

Entrepreneurs:

  • Real estate agents

  • Small business owners

  • Therapy private practice owners

  • Wellness business owners (yoga, acupuncture, reiki, massage, etc.)

  • Retail business owners -  selling your food, crafts, skincare products, etc. .

  • Restaurant/catering business owners

  • Party planning business owners

I am passionate about working with creatives and entrepreneurs because I am also a creative and an entrepreneur myself.

My creative outlet is comedy and storytelling. It’s part of how I connect with others, express myself, and heal. My creative pursuits are a meaning making process that helps me to better understand myself and the things I’ve been through, and the world around me. Fun & joy are essential parts of healing and wellness and I make this a priority in my own life.

As a therapist and private practice owner I am also a small business owner and I know the hard work it takes to make something for yourself.

I’m passionate about helping women and queer small business owners in particular because creating your own business is an opportunity to put something into the world where you don’t have to adopt someone else’s mission and values as your own, which is incredibly empowering for marginalized folks. You can create structures that truly work for you rather than trying to fit yourself as a square peg into a round hole of someone else’s business.
